Webinar: Faster Freeways
During two webinars set for November, learn how Bay Area freeway travel, transit and safety could be improved in 2035, including the potential of all-lane freeway pricing. Share your feedback on potential pricing strategies and community reinvestment priorities.
Today, freeway congestion is surging back to pre-COVID levels and the transportation system is struggling to keep the Bay Area moving. Drivers are experiencing slower freeways, while transit agencies grapple with funding and reliability challenges. Though transit ridership is slowly recovering, and infrastructure improvement projects are underway, freeway travel is expected to worsen if changes aren't made.
MTC's Next Generation Bay Area Freeways Study is exploring the feasibility of all-lane freeway tolling. Pricing freeway travel can reduce travel times, encourage transit use, and generate money for transit operations and road safety improvements.
Following last year’s preliminary public engagement to develop shared goals for the future of Bay Area freeways, MTC staff completed an initial analysis to project a potential 2035 freeway pricing scenario.
MTC invites Bay Area residents to ‘attend’ either of two virtual workshops and to weigh in on the tradeoffs between a future with or without all-lane freeway tolling. Participants will provide feedback on potential pricing strategies, weigh in on how toll money could be reinvested in Bay Area communities, and learn about projected transportation outcomes in 2035 and beyond.
Both presentations will be the same, so participants need only attend one webinar. For those who cannot join the webinar live, view the video recording.
