Plan Bay Area 2050 Public Engagement 2020 Year in Review
In 2020, staff from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Association of Bay Area Governments held 35 public events about Plan Bay Area 2050, in order to exchange ideas with residents and staff from partner organizations. Over 180,000 comments were received from over 15,000 people on the four key issues addressed in the plan—the economy, the environment, housing and transportation.
From online presentations and virtual workshops to telephone town halls, office hours and more, members of the public and stakeholders were able to provide feedback, ask clarifying questions, and help shape Plan Bay Area 2050, the long-range plan charting the course for the future of the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area.
Much of the year’s outreach was conducted virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and just a few of the dozens of activities included nine county-focused digital workshops in July; an online survey in July and August; a Tribal Summit in August; and an interactive webinar presenting the results of the Final Blueprint analysis in December. View the details of the 2020 public engagement efforts, including summary feedback and public comments.
Public input was synthesized and incorporated into the Plan Bay Area 2050 Final Blueprint, 35 cross-cutting strategies designed to make the Bay Area more equitable for all residents and more resilient in the face of unexpected challenges.
The final stages of Plan Bay Area 2050’s development are underway, and there will be additional opportunities for public engagement this spring. Sign up for the Plan Bay Area mailing list, and you will be notified of upcoming opportunities to participate in the plan.
